Eleanor, age 72
Eleanor resides on Acoma Pueblo and lives in a home that is in sub-standard living conditions. Her only income is from Social Security leaving her with limited resources to perform these repairs herself. Upon examination of the premises by Habitat for Humanity of Valencia County it was determined that the following repairs are required to be made in order to give Eleanor the living conditions she deserve: Plumbing leaks have caused erosion of the walls and floor, increasing mold and threatening the structure of the home. Electrical hazards pose a fire danger and the front door wouldn’t close and lock posing severe security issues. Habitat was able to repair all the plumbing problems, replace the flooring and walls, upgrade their electrical service and repair their door so she may live in a safe home. This rehabilitation will provide Eleanor with assurance that her home now meets building code requirements for a safe and habitable living environment. It also provides her the knowledge that there are groups of people working together that care and want to provide assistance to folks who need it most. |
